It is fair to say that Congressman Carlos Curbelo (R) has always dreamt big when it came to politics. The former Miami Belen Jesuit school alum first aspired to start a successful lobbying firm. Mission accomplished.
Rep. Curbelo then dreamt that his friend, now-Congressman Charlie Crist (D), would one day become a U.S. Senator.
Crist failed in his 2010 senate bid against now-Senator Marco Rubio.
When then-Congressman David Rivera (D) lost his re-election to Democrat Joe Garcia, Curbelo’s pie in the sky thought of becoming a sitting U.S. Representative, which became a reality when he then defeated Garcia in his 2014 re-election bid.
Now that he is in the U.S. House of Representatives, Curbelo is dreaming about “Dreamers” being afforded the chance to stay in the United States on a much permanent basis.
Armed with significant bipartisan support and the blessing from House Leadership, Curbelo is making a run for the goal (border) line.
Joining a chorus of Democratic lawmakers, Curbelo says that he will not vote to pass the upcoming spending bill if the GOP lead House does not affix legislation to address the “Dreamer” issue.
Curbelo, who has his own more conservative bill to offer, the Recognizing America’s Children Act, says that he would support any bill that helps these Dreamers.
